How to Change Your Business Hours on Google in 2026 (Step-by-Step Guide)
The hours displayed on Google are the first thing your customers check: before your address, before your phone number, before your reviews. One wrong hour, and a customer finds a closed door — and doesn’t come back. Here’s how to update them properly, and how to avoid having to redo it on every platform.
Changing your hours from a computer
- Sign in to the Google account that manages your business.
- Search for your exact business name on Google (or go to business.google.com).
- In the panel that appears, click “Edit profile” → “Business hours”.
- Enable “Open with main hours”, then fill in each day.
- Save: the update is usually visible within a few minutes.
Changing your hours from a mobile
On mobile, everything now goes through Google Maps or Google Search directly: search for your business while signed in to the right account, tap “Edit hours” and follow the steps. The standalone Google My Business app was retired back in 2022.
The three classic mistakes
1. Hours with a midday break — If you close between 12pm and 2pm, create two time slots for the same day (9am–12pm, then 2pm–7pm). Never enter 9am–7pm “to keep it simple”: Google favors businesses that are actually open at the moment of the search, and disappointed customers leave bad reviews.
2. Ignored public holidays — Google displays a “Hours might differ” warning on holidays unless you confirm your hours. Set your special hours several weeks in advance (see our dedicated holiday hours guide).
3. Unmonitored edit suggestions — Any user can “suggest an edit” to your hours, and Google sometimes applies these changes automatically. Check your profile regularly, or use a tool that detects these discrepancies for you.
What about Facebook, Instagram and your website?
This is where most businesses lose time: every hours change has to be repeated on the Google profile, the Facebook page, the website, and sometimes local directories. As a result, industry studies show that about 1 in 10 business profiles has missing or wrong hours or phone numbers.
A tool like Horair centralizes your hours: you change them once, and they propagate automatically to Google, Facebook and your website. Special closures can be scheduled in advance, and the whole team can see who changed what.
In short
| Action | Where |
|---|---|
| Edit regular hours | Google profile → “Edit profile” |
| Add a lunch break | Two time slots on the same day |
| Public holiday or exceptional closure | ”Special hours” |
| Sync everything automatically | A centralized tool like Horair |
Updating your hours takes two minutes — as long as you don’t have to do it six times. Try Horair for free and never touch your Google profile by hand again.
